What's Inside and Why It's Formulated the Way It Is

Most greens powders on the market use proprietary blends — a single total weight with a long list of ingredients hidden behind it. You have no idea if you're getting 500mg of spirulina or 5mg. NutraBio is one of the few brands in the industry that refuses to use proprietary blends on principle, disclosing every individual ingredient dose in every product they make. Mega Greens follows that same standard: six named blends, every one with its full dose disclosed, every ingredient within each blend named in full. If you want to know exactly what's in your greens powder and at what amounts, this is one of the few products in the category that actually tells you.†

The Five Active Layers

Green Balance Alkalizing Blend® — 4g — The Greens Foundation

The Green Balance Alkalizing Blend® is a registered trademark formulation from NP Nutra built entirely from certified organic sources. Nine ingredients cover the core greens and algae categories: two cereal grasses (barley grass and wheatgrass), two legume/broadleaf greens (kale and alfalfa), one grain grass (oat grass), one blue-green microalgae (spirulina), one green microalgae (chlorella, cracked cell wall for maximum bioavailability), organic lemon juice powder for alkalizing organic acids, and organic astragalus root extract for adaptogenic immune support. At 4g total this is the primary active ingredient in the formula by weight — a meaningful greens dose rather than a token amount present for label decoration.†

The cracked cell wall specification on the chlorella is an important detail. Chlorella has a rigid outer cell wall that human digestive enzymes cannot efficiently penetrate — chlorella sold in non-cracked form has significantly reduced bioavailability of its chlorophyll, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Cracked cell wall processing (typically via mechanical milling or spray drying) ruptures the cell wall before consumption, dramatically increasing the digestibility and nutritional availability of the chlorella content. NutraBio specifying cracked cell wall chlorella reflects attention to the bioavailability of what's actually being delivered.†

BettaBerries® Antioxidant Blend — 1.5g — The Polyphenol Matrix

BettaBerries® is a second NP Nutra trademark formula, this one built around a ten-source polyphenol and antioxidant berry matrix. The blend leads with JabuVital® (jabuticaba juice powder) — a patented extract from the Brazilian grape tree whose fruit has among the highest measured ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) values of any edible fruit — alongside pomegranate, goji, acerola (one of the most concentrated natural vitamin C sources available), mangosteen, AcaiVida® branded acai, strawberry, amla, cranberry, and MaquiForza™ freeze-dried maqui berry. Maqui berry is particularly notable — it contains the highest documented anthocyanin density of any commonly commercially available fruit, with ORAC values that exceed most other berries by a significant margin.†

The combination of ten polyphenol sources covering different anthocyanin profiles, proanthocyanidins, ellagitannins, and flavonoids creates a broader antioxidant coverage than any single berry source can provide — different polyphenols have different affinities for different types of oxidative stress, and a multi-source berry blend captures more of the antioxidant spectrum.†

Adaptogen Mushroom Blend — 1g — Six Species for Immune and Adaptogenic Support

The six-mushroom blend covers the most evidence-backed medicinal mushroom species commercially available: Cordyceps militaris for energy metabolism and VO2 max support, Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) for adaptogenic stress modulation and immune regulation, King Trumpet (Pleurotus eryngii) for beta-glucan content and antioxidant activity, Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) for lentinan polysaccharides and cardiovascular support, Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) for nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis stimulation and cognitive support, and Turkey Tail (Trametes versicolor) for PSK/PSP polysaccharopeptides with documented immune-modulating effects. Each species brings distinct bioactive compounds — beta-glucans, terpenoids, ergothioneine — that cover different dimensions of immune defense, adaptogenic stress response, and longevity support.†

At 1g total across six species this is approximately 167mg per mushroom on average — a functional maintenance dose for daily use in a comprehensive daily greens formula, consistent with how mushroom extracts are dosed in combination formulas versus single-ingredient mushroom supplements designed for therapeutic effect.†

CherryPURE® — 500mg — The Recovery and Antioxidant Anchor

CherryPURE® is Shoreline Fruit's registered trademark for their Montmorency tart cherry powder, standardized to 3% proanthocyanidins from Prunus cerasus fruit. Montmorency tart cherry is one of the most clinically studied whole food ingredients in the sports recovery space — published research has documented reductions in exercise-induced muscle damage markers, decreased delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) severity, and accelerated strength recovery following intense exercise in multiple randomized controlled trials. The mechanism is multifactorial: tart cherry's anthocyanin and melatonin content reduces oxidative stress and inflammatory signaling following exercise, while its natural melatonin content supports sleep quality — the primary window for muscle recovery. The 3% proanthocyanidin standardization confirms the batch-to-batch consistency of the bioactive content.†

DigeZyme® — 100mg — The Enzyme Complex

DigeZyme® is Sabinsa Corporation's registered trademark multi-enzyme complex containing five distinct digestive enzymes: alpha-amylase (carbohydrate digestion), protease (protein digestion), cellulase (plant fiber digestion), lactase (dairy sugar digestion), and lipase (fat digestion). Including a full-spectrum enzyme complex in a greens formula serves a practical purpose: the raw plant materials — grass powders, algae, berry powders — contain varying amounts of plant cell wall material and complex polysaccharides that human digestive enzymes don't efficiently break down without assistance. DigeZyme provides the enzymatic capacity to maximize the bioavailability of the 26 superfoods in the formula, particularly relevant for the chlorella, spirulina, and berry powders whose phytonutrient content is better absorbed when cell structures are partially pre-digested.†

Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin — 50mg — The Alkalizing and Cellular Support Agent

Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin is the water-soluble, semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll — the magnesium atom in natural chlorophyll is replaced with copper, which dramatically improves stability and water solubility without significantly changing biological activity. Chlorophyllin has documented antioxidant properties, acts as a natural deodorant at the cellular level by binding to odor-producing compounds before they reach systemic circulation, and has shown potential for DNA protective effects by binding carcinogenic compounds in the digestive tract. As a supplemental form of chlorophyll it adds to the alkalizing green character of the formula.†

Chicory Root Fiber — 2g — The Prebiotic Layer

Chicory root (Cichorium intybus) at 2g provides inulin-type fructooligosaccharides (FOS) — the most extensively researched prebiotic fiber in human clinical trials. Inulin passes undigested through the small intestine and reaches the colon intact, where Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus species selectively ferment it, producing short-chain fatty acids (particularly butyrate) and increasing the population of beneficial bacteria. Butyrate is the primary energy substrate for colonocytes (colon cells) and is critical for maintaining colonic mucosal integrity, reducing intestinal permeability, and supporting the gut-immune axis. The 2g dose is consistent with the doses used in human prebiotic research showing measurable changes in gut microbiome composition.†
