Vitamin B6 is a group of water-soluble compounds that functions as a coenzyme in many reactions involved in amino acid, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism, as well as the production of antibodies and red blood cells.

Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P-5’-P) is the metabolically active form of vitamin B6, involved in over 100 enzymatic reactions, many of which are related to protein metabolism.

In addition to protein metabolism, vitamin B6 plays a role in glycogen release from the liver and muscles.* The vitamin also supports homocysteine methylation and may play a role in cardiovascular health as part of adequate B vitamin intake.

Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate helps maintain the balance of sodium and potassium, which supports normal fluid regulation and healthy functioning of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

Vitamin B6 is also required for the biosynthesis of several neurotransmitters, including GABA, dopamine, noradrenaline, and serotonin.
