HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate) is an active metabolite of the amino acid leucine. NutraBio HMB provides 1,000mg per capsule, sourced exclusively from Metabolic Technologies — the patent holder for HMB. HMB has been studied extensively in the sports nutrition literature. Research suggests it may support protein synthesis and help reduce protein breakdown during intense training, which may contribute to supporting muscle recovery and lean mass maintenance as part of a structured exercise program.
HMB has also been studied in the context of endurance training, with some research suggesting potential support for aerobic capacity markers such as VO2max and lactate threshold.
The commonly studied dosage of HMB is 3g per day for average-size individuals, divided into 2–3 equal servings spread throughout the day.
